Another player who is equally at home as a stopper or sweeper. 揚oppa?is cool on the ball with a sharp sense for distribution, but also knows how to shut out attacks quickly and with a minimum of fuss. Dangerous at set pieces with his aerial ability, as England found out at Upton Park in February 2003. Was appointed captain of Crystal Palace in their return to the English Premier League this season.

A defender able to play stopping or sweeping roles, the experienced Tony Popovic provides a calm head in central defence. He also brings good distribution skills and an aerial threat at set-pieces.

Popovic played for J-League club Sanfreece Hiroshima before signing for English side Crystal Palace. 'Poppa' represented Australia at the 1987 FIFA U-17 World Championship and 1991 FIFA World Youth Championship before making his senior international debut against Colombia in 1995.
